Even those who hate comebacks celebrated Slowdive’s. Pioneers of shoegaze in the 90s, the British band decided to take up their instruments again in 2014 to perform at Primavera Sound to show why they have ended up being one of the most influential bands of the genre. This reformation led to a world tour that demonstrated that they had, also, become a cult name for a whole new generation.
From that moment it was clear that the reunion of Neil Halstead, Rachel Goswell, Nick Chaplin, Christian Savill and Simon Scott made total sense. And this was confirmed in 2017 by Slowdive, their first studio album in 22 years, that all the media have highlighted not only as their best record but also as one of the best of the year. An album produced by Chris Coady (Beach House, Future Islands), on which their fundamental essence fuses with the intensity of their live act.
At their Madrid and Barcelona concerts they will be supported by the Paris quartet Dead Sea, who define their sound as “turbo chillwave” but we could also include them in the post shoegaze category, something which is patently obvious when you listen to the two singles they have released to date.
